But I believe Uru:CC is the "definitive" version of Uru.

So, I'd say play Uru:CC first, then check out MOUL for some of that extra content (it's free to play, and it's worth checking out of course). On the other hand, there are some new Ages with limited puzzles and some new features, but they also don't have much story content. The ending of The Path of the Shell, including a pretty memorable puzzle is completely absent. You do a bunch of stuff here and there, but most of the underlying story is gone or is very fragmented. You can go to (almost) all the places from them, but it's quite arbitrary. In MOUL the base game pretty much remains the same, but the expansions lose that progression. Sure, Uru doesn't have any "plot" in the strict sense, but it definitely has a lot of stories underneath, and the 3 games make up a pretty memorable trilogy about the past, present and future of D'ni. In CC, both the base game and the expansions have a clear arc. The problem with MOUL is that it removes much of the sense of progression and discovery from the game. I believe that for getting into Uru, the original Uru:CC is the best option. (though people are occasionally still organizing gatherings and events online) Some of the puzzles in them also require multiple players, which is pretty hard to find today. These new Ages had some story happen in them when the story was still being updated, but since they were meant as settings for live events, they feel a bit pointless in their current form.
It includes the vast majority, but not all of the content of Uru CC, and it also includes some new Ages and features.
For a while, it was being updated with new content and stories, but that is long over now, although the game is still playable as it is. (GOG etc.)Ī couple years later, Uru got another chance when Myst Online: Uru Live (MOUL) was released. These three games (base game Ages Beyond Myst and the two expansions) bundled together make up Uru: Complete Chronicles (Uru CC), a fully single-player game that is distributed today on many platforms. It launched off with a single-player game, Uru: Ages Beyond Myst that was meant to be continued online - however that never happened beyond a short-lived beta, and the planned or already incorporated online content was reworked into two single-player expansions: To D'ni and The Path of the Shell. Uru was originally intended to be an online experience, with stories developing live, Ages continuously added and so on.
